Grape Detox: The Secret to Protecting Your DNA
Peace God! Now is the time and season to get ready to embark on a grape-filled journey towards vitality and well-being. Let's dive into the Grape Detox and discover the amazing benefits that grapes have to offer!
Why Do a Grape Detox
DNA Protection: Grapes contain a powerful compound called resveratrol, which is known for its remarkable ability to protect the DNA in our cells against harmful mutations that can occur due to various factors such as environmental toxins, aging, and unhealthy lifestyle choices. This natural compound acts as a shield, safeguarding the integrity and stability of our genetic material, thereby reducing the risk of developing genetic disorders and diseases. By including grapes in our diet, we can provide our bodies with this essential protection and promote optimal cellular health.
Hydration: One of the primary advantages of including grapes in your diet is their significant water content. Staying properly hydrated is crucial for various bodily functions, including but not limited to maintaining optimal joint health, regulating body temperature, and safeguarding vital tissues like the spinal cord. By consuming grapes, you can ensure that your body receives an adequate amount of hydration, promoting overall well-being and supporting the efficient functioning of your bodily systems.
Eye Health: Grapes are not only delicious but also beneficial for eye health. They contain two important pigments, lutein and zeaxanthin, which play a crucial role in protecting and improving vision. These pigments are known to enhance visual range, making it easier to see objects near and far. Additionally, they help reduce discomfort caused by glare and bright lights, allowing for better visual clarity even in challenging lighting conditions. Furthermore, lutein and zeaxanthin enhance visual contrast, making it easier to distinguish between different shades and colors. So, incorporating grapes into your diet can be a tasty and effective way to support and maintain good eye health.
Which Variety of Grapes to use
The best selection of grapes is available when it is grape season at its peak. I highly recommend a few varieties: Concord grapes, Muscadine Grapes, and Red Globe Grapes.
Concord grapes have one of the highest polyphenol contents compared to other grapes. Polyphenols give them their vibrant purple color and serve as natural antioxidants.
Muscadine grapes are rich in fiber and contain more resveratrol than other grape varieties. Resveratrol is an antioxidant that promotes healthy mental function and has anti-aging properties.
Red Globe grapes, although not as high in antioxidants as Concord and Muscadine grapes, still contain substantial amounts of antioxidants.
Seeded grapes are preferred, but if you can't find seeded grapes, many have noted positive results with the seedless variety. The decision of whether to consider seedless grapes is up to you.
Buying In Season
Grape season here in the states has a small window. The grape season varies depending on location. In the United States, grapes are typically in season from August through October, but harvesting can occur in early summer or late fall.
If you're in Pittsburgh, PA, you can check out the East End Food Coop. They usually carry a variety of seeded grapes, including Muscadine Grapes, Red Globe grapes, and Concord grapes. If you're located elsewhere in the United States, you can see if there's a National Coop Grocers market or farmers' market nearby.
If you don't see any seeded grapes available, it wouldn't hurt to inquire if they are expecting an order. Closed mouths don't get fed. There were countless times when I didn't see any on store shelves, but when I asked, they had some available in the back being priced, or they let me know when they are expecting a fresh batch.
How I Approach a Grape Detox
I don’t frequently consume liquids or eat grapes throughout the entire day of the detox period. I do apply dry fasting for a set length of time within the day.
For instance, I abstain from food and drinks from 7pm- 8am. At 8am I break my dry fast on a warm cup of herbal tea or spring water with key lime. Then I proceed to eat the grapes and drink grape within the remaining timeframe.
Try eating 1 to 2 handfuls of grapes every 2 hours throughout the day. Alternatively, you can consume ounces of grape juice. I drank approximately 24 ounces per day, consuming 6 ounces every two hours. The objective is to avoid eating all the grapes or drinking all the grape juice at once, but rather to spread them out throughout the day.
Recommendations to Assist Your Detox
I would recommend purchasing the book "The Grape Cure" by Johanna Brandt. It provides convincing scientific discussions of effective methods, treatments, and techniques. In the book, the author also shares their use of sour milk and buttermilk, so use your own discretion when necessary.
If you are in the market for a juicer, I would recommend making your purchase through the Kuvings website. Kuvings offers a range of high-quality juicers to fit various budgets. Some options include the beginner-friendly C7000 and the highly recommended Revo 830. By using the code "Brandon", you can enjoy a 10% discount on all juicer purchases.
